Shabbat in Copacabana

The Rio option for a kosher Iguazu trip

Why Shabbat in Iguazu Doesn't Work

Iguazu has no Jewish community — no shul, no kosher restaurants, no walking distance to anything Jewish. The Belmond Hotel das Cataratas sits inside a national park, isolated by design. For an observant family, spending Shabbat there means three meals in a hotel room and no minyan.

Why Rio Works

Our Rio guests stay at the Fairmont Rio Copacabana. Through our kosher chef in Rio, Shabbat meals are arranged directly at the hotel — Friday night, Shabbat lunch, and Saturday evening, prepared on-site and ready when you arrive.

Chabad Beit Lubavitch (Rua Maracanaú 11) — Rabbi Ilan Stiefelmann's community — is at the northern end of Copacabana, about a 30-minute walk along the beachfront. Many of our guests walk to Chabad for Friday night davening and return to the Fairmont for dinner.

And it's Copacabana — beachfront afternoons, rest, Havdalah, and you've actually had a Shabbat.
